How to Use Facebook Stories

Content shared to stories will appear at the top of the Facebook News Feed. To view a story, users simply tap a friends’ name at the top of the app. While viewing a story, users can also reply with a direct message.

1. How Facebook Stories Work

Content shared to stories will appear at the top of the Facebook News Feed. To view a story, users simply tap a friends’ circle at the top of the app. While viewing a story, users can also reply with a direct message.

2. Create Your Content

Select “Create a Story” under your name and profile picture. The next screen will open your camera roll (photos you’ve taken on your phone) and give you the option to take a photo with the camera icon at the bottom.

You can share both photos and videos to stories. Scroll through your photos to find the one you want to post to your story. You can also hit the button “select multiple” to choose more than one photo to post at once.

To take a photo, tap on the camera icon in the center of the screen. To record a video, swipe over to video at the bottom of your screen once your camera opens.

3. Edit Your Photo

Once you’ve taken a photo or selected one from your camera roll, you’ll have the ability to customize it if you wish. Along the right side of your screen you’ll see a list of options, “Stickers, Text, Draw, Effects, Tag people, Animate.” Play around with any of these or leave your photo as-is.

4. Share Your Story

Once you’re happy with the post you’ve created, the next step is to share it to your story. To do this, tap “share to story” on the right lower side of the screen.

5. Other Fun Options

Other than adding a photo you can also create a story that’s simply text. Share a favorite quote or a short sentence about your day under the “Text” feature.

Have a new favorite song or a song that inspires you? Find it under “Music.” You can search by song name, artist, genre, etc.

Instagram
Creating Instagram Stories

With the “Stories” feature you can share content that is only available for 24 hours. It does not post to your news feed but allows any of your followers the chance to view it. If anyone that you are following shares a story, you will find those at the top of your news feed. These are becoming more and more popular!

By selecting the “+” next to your profile photo, your camera roll opens. Select a photo to post to your story or click the camera icon to take a photo or video. Just note that if you take a video, this is a raw, unedited video. You can not create a story, tweak it and then post it. If you want an edited video, you can create one outside of Instagram and then share it on your profile.

Similar to Facebook, there are fun options available on Instagram as well, like polls, quizzes, and more! These options are a great way to engage with your audience.

Note! When you post a story, your followers are able to comment at the bottom in the form of a message. If you receive a comment on your story it will show up in your Direct Message box as a new message.
